The federal government has ​launched an initiative in partnership with ISP providers to help eligible low-income Canadian families get home Internet services for $10 per month.

In late January, the World Health Organization declared a public health emergency of international concern over the global outbreak of Novel Corona virus now known as COVID-19.

Evergreen Catholic School Division would like to offer parents and guardians an update on the developing health concern and reassure families that the safety of our students and staff is always our priority.

 

Our Division continues to take direction from Alberta Health Services, and the Public Health Agency of Canada as the situation continues to evolve.  Information from these health authorities will be shared as it becomes available.  Families are encouraged to check the Public Health Agency of Canada and Alberta Health Services for the most recent information about COVID-19 and the actions being taken to protect the health of Albertans.

We also continue to use resources available to schools, including updates from Alberta Health Services and Alberta Education, Alberta Education’s Pandemic Planning Guide for Alberta School Authorities, Public Health Guidance for Schools (K-12) and Childcare programs (COVID-19) to help guide us.  Lastly, Administrative Procedure 166 - Pandemic Response, also provides us direction.

Classes are currently cancelled for all schools in Alberta.  However, typically schools monitor attendance daily and if 10% or more of student population is absent for the same reason, this is reported to Alberta Health Services.  The same practice is followed during the cold and influenza season.  Our custodians continue to provide ongoing detailed attention to cleaning and sanitizing practices at all schools and sites in the Division to help prevent the spread of germs.


To protect yourself and others, students, families and staff are encouraged to:

  • use good hygiene practices, such as frequent handwashing
  • cover coughs and sneezes
  • avoid touching eyes, nose, and mouth 
  • stay at home and away from others if you are feeling ill
  • contact your primary health provider or Health Link 811 if you have questions or concerns about your health

 

As Spring Break approaches, we know that some of our families and staff have travel plans. The latest advice from both the Federal and Provincial government is to cancel all unnecessary travel. Government of Canada travel advisory website 

 

There’s nothing more important than the safety of our students, families, and staff. It is natural to be concerned about this situation. You can help prevent the spread of illness by staying up to date on information from government and health officials and taking proper precautions.
