Leah Collins Receives ASBA Edwin Parr Award for First-Year Teaching Excellence
Evergreen Catholic Schools is proud to announce that Leah Collins, a Grade One teacher at St. John Paul II School in Stony Plain, has been selected as this year’s recipient of the ASBA Edwin Parr Award, which recognizes outstanding first-year teachers across Alberta.
Leah was nominated for her exceptional dedication, professionalism, and the immediate impact she has made in her first year of teaching. The Edwin Parr Award, presented annually by the Alberta School Boards Association (ASBA), honours teachers who demonstrate exemplary commitment and skill early in their careers.
In her Grade One classroom, Leah fosters a warm and inclusive environment where students feel supported and encouraged in their learning. She carefully accommodates diverse student needs through differentiated instruction, engaging lesson plans, and the use of manipulatives and peer collaboration. Her approach promotes both academic growth and social development.
Leah demonstrates a strong commitment to cultural awareness by thoughtfully integrating First Nations, Métis, and Inuit teachings into her classroom. She also exemplifies professionalism by adhering to school and division policies, collaborating with colleagues, and actively participating in professional development.
Her contributions extend beyond the classroom through involvement in extracurricular and community activities, further highlighting her dedication to student success and school culture.
Evergreen Catholic Schools congratulates Leah Collins on this outstanding achievement and celebrates her recognition as an Edwin Parr Award recipient.
