On behalf of the Evergreen Catholic School Division Board of Trustees, I am proud to welcome all to our faith-filled schools in Devon, Hinton, Spruce Grove, Stony Plain and Westlock. You will find clean and safe schools with a caring atmosphere in every building, schoolyard and playground. Much of this is due to a commitment to our faith, as we are challenged to be the best possible examples of virtue to each other, and to be the hands of Christ to our students.
We are very proud of our students’ exciting record of achievement and superior progress, and we are honoured by the recognition that we have received from the Alberta Government based on our Division’s outstanding results on Provincial Achievement Tests. Certainly, our teachers and teachers’ assistants deserve a great deal of the credit for our students’ accomplishments. I believe it is the presence of our faith in the classroom that makes it all come together to produce these wonderful results.
We know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose. Romans 8.28
This is an important point in time; education in Alberta is about to see great changes. The intent of these changes is to better prepare students for a highly competitive and technology-driven future. The most important element in making this a success will be a much more active engagement by students, parents and members of the community at large in the education process. No two school jurisdictions will have identical formulas for improving education in their communities. I am sure that Evergreen will succeed with adopting the most forward-thinking strategies and integrating the best ideas, while keeping Christ at the centre of everything we do.
Gerald Bernakevitch, Chairman of the Board, Evergreen CSRD No. 2
